Charles Robert Harvey was born in Albany near Arthur River in Western Australia in 1889 to William Robert HARVEY and Esther Emily HICKS, he was one of six children. As a young man he joined the WAGR where he worked till the outbreak of War when he signed up at the age of 25. As a Corporal in the 3rd Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery, 11th Battalion AIF, he was to be awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
Upon his return from service he worked at farming and then he ran a billiard saloon and boarding house with his brother Mr A R Harvey in Albany. When times became tough he decided to try his hand at mining, and got a position at the Beryl GM at Ravensthorpe. Not long after the started there he was to be killed in an accident. He and a workmate, Stephen DANIELS were being hauled to the surface in a skip, when it was 100ft from the bottom of the shaft the counter weight dropped from a height into the skip knocking Harvey out and injuring Daniels.
He was buried in the Lake Grace Cemetery with full Military and Masonic honours.
