FATALITY AT GWALIA.   –   A CARPENTER KILLED. Leonora, April 29.

He left his home in perfect health
Never thinking death was near
Not dreaming that he never would
Return to his wife and daughters dear

John Pearce, a carpenter working at the Sons of Gwalia mine, was engaged yesterday in putting new blocks in the winder brake, and the steel strap was slackened for the purpose. It is believed that whilst he was engaged in the operation a bolt stripped the thread, resulting in the strap springing back and striking Pearce on the head with terrific force. He was removed to the hospital and died during the night. The deceased, only recently brought his wife and family from England.

Kalgoorlie Miner 3 May 1907  :  The remains of the late John Pearce, who was killed in the Gwalia engine-room on Sunday, were interred yesterday at Leonora. A large number of workmen at the mine followed the funeral, and members of the Gwalia Rifle Club .fired a volley over the grave of  their late comrade.
