Herbyne Wakeford Turrell was only 38yrs of age when he was struck by a descending cage on the 21st July 1939. He was killed on the Great Boulder Mine.

Herbyne was born in Boulder in 1902 to William Wakeford Turrell and Rosie nee Bennetts. He had a younger brother and sister Hazel Winifred born 1903 and Harold Frederick born 1904.
In 1927 Herbyne married Florence M Bamkin in Perth in 1927.
They had one child, John Wakeford Turrell, he was born on 6 April 1929 in Fremantle, Western Australia, his father, Herbyn, was 27 and his mother, Florence, was 27. He lost his father when he was only 10 years old. He died on 23 February 2011 in Rockingham, Western Australia, at the age of 81.
