An article in the "The Daily News" dated October 10 1944 reads:
"Miner Killed By Blast" Kalgoorlie, Tues.
Yesterday the body of a 58-year-old miner named William (Scotty) Tait, employed by the Lake View and Star Gold Mines, was found in the 2500-foot stope of Chaffers shaft. Death had apparently been caused by an explosion. He had intended to fire a sandblast shortly before the discovery of his body. The deceased was a married man, who lived at No. 1 Ardagh Avenue, Kalgoorlie, and was well known on the goldfields. Recently he was a candidate for the position of workmen's inspector of mines.
William was a married man who had 6 children: Margaret C Tait - born in 1912. George William Tait - was born in 1914. John H Tait - born 1915. Jean E Tait - born 1916. Edna P Tait - born 1923. Beryl Evelyn Tait - born 1924.
