Mills died in Kalgoorlie District Hospital. He had suffered a depressed fracture of the skull while working at the 1100ft. level of the Hamilton shaft of the Great Boulder mine a week previously, when he was struck by a quantity of steel which fell down the man-way. He never regained consciousness.
