ACCIDENT AT WILUNA
FATAL EXPLOSION
MINE WORKER KILLED
Another Wiluna employee, George Bailie, died at the Wiluna Hospital on Monday following injuries he received as a result of an explosion.
Bailie, who was a single man, aged 62 years, was employed as a magazine attendant, and early on the morning of September 18th, was engaged in capping fuses. It appears that he lit a fuse with the intention of testing it, but immediately on doing so there was a violent explosion, which badly wrecked the room. Bailie was severely injured.
A report from Wiluna concerning the tragic affair disclosed that Bailie, contrary to his usual custom had carried out the test of the fuse inside the capping room instead of outside, and it was thought that the explosion was caused either by a spark from the match or the fuse.
There were about 100 detonators in the room and an inspection of the room afterward disclosed that the detonators had apparently all exploded.
