Crushing Services International charged over death of electrician Kurt Williams at FMG Christmas Creek mine
CHARGES have been laid over the August 2013 death of a mine worker in the Pilbara.
The Department of Mines and Petroleum last week charged Crushing Services International Pty Ltd over the death of electrician Kurt Williams.
Mr Williams died on August 14 while working as a contractor at Fortescue Metal Group’s Christmas Creek mine.
His employer, CSI, has been charged under the Mines and Safety Inspection Act for failing to provide a safe working environment.
Mr Williams was greasing a motor when he was fatally crushed by a ladder attached to a tripper unit at the top of the ore processing facility.
The first court mention is scheduled for August 5 in the South Hedland Magistrates Court.
Before Mr Williams’ death, the last WA mines fatality occurred in August 2011, with 2012 recording its first fatality-free year in more than a century.
