Other Information
A 59-year-old man died at Central Norseman Gold's Harlequin mine at the weekend in an underground rock fall accident. New Zealand father of three, Wayne Fowlie, was fatality injured at the site on Saturday morning. The West Australian reports Fowlie moved to the mining town of Norseman in mid-2012 but was months away from retiring and planned to return to New Zealand.
"He was one of the nicest guys in town," neighbour Sharne Pietersen said "Everybody knew him. He would give you the shirt off his back."
The WA Department of Mines and Petroleum said inspectors were sent to the site on Sunday from Perth and Kalgoorlie. Mining operations at the site have been suspended while the investigation is underway.
