Diagnosis or cause of accident
William was working with Henry Dupee, removing timber from the formerly abandoned mine. The job was about completed when the few remaining timbers left in the shaft dislodged and carried the timbers and rocks plus William and Henry to their deaths at the bottom of the mine shaft, some 180 ft below.

William lived in the Kamballie area of Western Australia for about six years prior to his passing and resided with his employer. • Was appointed as a Constable in the Victorian Police Force in 1888 but left around 1889. • His name appears in a Victorian Police Gazette (No AU71031895) listing him as a missing person after his Wife sought the help of the Victorian Police to try to find him.
